Story of Yukiyu-do

The Yuki-Nyūdō is rooted in old folklore of Hida.
On snowy mornings, large hollows left in fresh snow were said to be the footprints of this one-eyed, one-legged giant who wandered before dawn—both feared and imagined by children.

Hō-no-ki and Hida
The Japanese bigleaf magnolia (hō-no-ki) has long supported Hida’s mountain culture. Its broad leaves were used for serving food, grilling dishes like hōba miso and hōba sushi, and as tools of daily life. Even today, it remains a symbol of local wisdom and resilience in the region’s food traditions.
