It has long been said that the large dents in the fresh snow on the morning after it snows are the footprints of Yuki-Nyudo. It is an snow monster with one eye and one leg that is said to appear before the dawn, children feared .
Hida no Yukinyudo is a creation based on an oral tradition passed down for long time in this Hida area. Mr.Okui who is local wood craft man make use of the pieces of wood that come out from making the traditional wooden ladle in winter. He use hatchets, deba knives, saws, etc. to boldly shape and finish with simple coloring so as not to impair the texture of the wood, using the wood grains and shapes that appear after splitting with a hatchet as a prototype. Since I make the most of each shapes and texture, the fairy has a natural shape and a rustic atmosphere, and is somewhat cute.
