About Sukiya Crafts

In a quiet mountain town of Hida, Japan—
where the spirit of craftsmanship has taken root and been passed down since ancient times by the master builders of Hida—
I walked through 8,444 traditional homes in this region.

As part of a preservation project, I worked to find ways to repurpose historically and architecturally significant homes—honoring their form, conserving their beauty, and weaving them into the future of the landscape.
One such project became SUKIYA-zukuri Suehiro—a restored residence that now welcomes travelers seeking quiet authenticity.

Through this work, I came to see these dwellings not merely as architecture, but as vessels of a way of life—imperfect, enduring, and quietly beautiful.

That spirit lives on here at Sukiya Crafts.

We curate handcrafted works from the Hida region—woodwork, glassware, and lifestyle pieces that blend tradition and quiet modernity.
Each item reflects the Wabi-sabi aesthetic, the warmth of natural materials, and the quiet dignity of true craftsmanship.

Sukiya Crafts is not just a store—
it’s a bridge between tradition and modern life, where hand-crafted folk crafts find new life in your home.
